Course reflection

Inquiry 450 was another course that truly humanized mathematics for me. It transformed what I once saw as abstract concepts into connections with things like nature, poetry, drawing, colour, rope, and body measurements. This shift in perspective made me realize how deeply math is woven into so many aspects of daily life. I also valued the moments when we were pushed out of our comfort zones to explore the arts, which brought a refreshing creative element to the course. The welcoming environment our cohort built together was another highlight, and I will always remember the shared experiences we had in the mornings at the garden. Particularly, I appreciated our sharing circles where everyone would discuss what they had worked on at their sit spots. Finally, I found great inspiration in watching everyone’s inquiry projects. The passion and depth of knowledge each peer brought to their topic encouraged me to continue reflecting on how I can improve my own teaching practices and pedagogies. I look forward to incorporating their ideas in my future lessons.

  1. Thanks so much, Saiya! I really appreciate everything that you have contributed to every phase of our courses together -- and especially your inspiring problem-solving and mathematical poetry-writing!
