Oct 17: Entrance slip

For my inquiry project, I aim to investigate the impact of classroom layouts on student engagement and collaboration, particularly in math classrooms. While the content and structure of curriculums have evolved significantly over the years, one aspect that has largely remained unchanged is the traditional classroom layout. Most classrooms today still feature rows of desks facing the front, where a whiteboard, blackboard, or projector is typically positioned, and the teacher stands to lecture. I question whether this enduring arrangement is a result of its proven effectiveness, or if it is time for a change. My interest in this topic is also inspired by my personal experience with the "Thinking Classroom" model, where the layout shifts focus away from the front of the room and encourages more interactive, student-centered learning. I found this layout to be highly effective and engaging, which is why I am eager to explore how different classroom arrangements might influence student participation and collaboration in math education.
